Therapeutic Exercises

Everyday exercise is essential for good health even if it is just a 30-minute walk!

What is the difference between regular everyday activity and therapeutic physical exercise?

Therapeutic exercises include physical activities designed specifically to improve strengthening, endurance training, range of motion and flexibility.

Examples of Therapeutic Exercises

These exercises are usually directed to tackling lack of strength, loss of mobility, problems in balance or coordination resulting from a specific injury. They also address specific functional needs for the patient.

These can be active, active-assisted or passive exercises such as:

  • Treadmill exercise

  • Isokinetic exercise

  • Lumbar stabilization

  • Stretching exercises

  • Strengthening exercises

These exercises are aimed to improving factors of strength and range of motion and  can include the use of:

  • Free weights

  • Exercise machines

  • Range of motion exercises with the body

At our Astoria clinic location, we also have aquatic therapy. Water is a safe and effective medium to exercise specific muscle groups and joints with substantially less compressive forces making movement easier and less painful. The therapeutic, non-weight-bearing properties of water and its natural resistance create an ideal environment for post-operative, back , knee and hip rehabilitation.
