Jaw adjustment therapy NYC

About TMJ Dysfunction

The jaw is an integral part of the face and houses some of the most important functions of humans including speech, eating and more. Amongst the specialty injuries we treat are temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) which is a relatively rare speciality that not many physical therapists treat . This is when you have pain in the jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement.

To assess your condition , what you can expect from our doctors is the following:

– Listen to and feel your jaw when you open and close your mouth

– Observe the range of motion in your jaw

– Press on areas around your jaw to identify sites of pain or discomfort

TMJ dysfunctions can be caused by a variety of reasons including TMJ (Jaw) joint movement dysfunction (Primary TMJ dysfunction) or neck muscles problems that causes the TMJ not to function properly (Secondary TMJ dysfunction). Symptoms of TMJ may include clicking , popping , headaches , burning facial pain or inability to move the jaw in certain directions.

If you have any TMJ issues , you can call us and ask about our TMJ specialists who are here to help you
