How did physical therapy help the weakest team win the tug of war in the Squid Game series ?

Well , let’s start from the beginning, “Squid Game “ , the new all time watched Netflix Series, is on Air .This is a royal battle type of TV series where the characters have to participate in a variety of games . Only those who win the final game can survive and receive a prize of 45.6 billion won.

The third game was tug of war. Because the old man looked very weak, no one wanted to team up with him. But at the time of crisis, the hero Qixun reached out to him and asked him to join his team.Qixun did not expect that this game level was tug of war.

In tug of war, naturally, ten men have a higher chance of winning. The losing team will all fall from a high altitude and eventually be thrown to death. In addition to the old man, there are three girls in the team ,which is the weakest of all teams !

The strategy was simple: Point your feet forward. Hold the rope near your body’s center. Pull the rope with your back laying low and your head facing the sky. Hold this position for as long as possible until the opponent tires, at which point , the whole team should start pulling in a rhythmic movement.

So how did physical therapy actually help?

THE ANSWER IS “CORE STABILITY AND ENDURANCE “

They begin by leaning back as far as possible for 10 seconds before tugging ferociously. When everyone is tired ,they controversially take three steps forward (instead of pulling backwards) causing their opponents to fall in confusion.

This is called Core strength and Endurance :

The core is at the center of your body, it encompasses your abs, hips, back, and chest. Your core stabilizes your body, allowing you to move in any direction as well as having proper balance. It helps prevent falls and supports your body. So having a strong core is beneficial in many ways because it allows your body to function properly.

Improved Balance and Stability :

Core exercises train the muscles in your pelvis, lower back, hips and abdomen to work together. This leads to better balance and stability making daily activities such as walking, running, and even more vigorous activities such as jumping , climbing and playing sports. A strong core will consist of muscles that work together to support your body. This will make you less susceptible to injuries, keeping your body aligned and minimizing strain on your muscles and joints.

Qixun team has set their body weight in a position that means the opposing team really has to pull them with their entire body weight, plus whatever force they’re pushing through their legs with. If they sit upright, there’s a lot more mid back and arms being used.

ENDURANCE :

As for endurance, let’s know more. What is the main effect of endurance ?  What are the benefits of endurance training? Why the appeal ? What would make a presumably sane person want to spend hours running, swimming, or biking?

Endurance activity keeps your heart, lungs and circulatory system healthy and improves your overall fitness. As a result, people who get the recommended regular physical activity can reduce the risk of many diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

Endurance training also helps maintain good posture and stability for longer periods, improving the aerobic capacity of muscles and improving the ability to carry out daily functional activities, such as lifting heavy items.

The three-steps-forward method was their solution to winning.
When they loosened the rope, the other team’s force were against them. They fell on the ground in seconds which gave Qixun team the mechanical advantage of pulling the other team and thus they won the game.

Why is core strength important ?

Eliminates Back Pain

A body that is aligned and upright will make you less prone to have back pain. A person’s core is at the center of their body which supports the entire body especially the neck and the back. If a core is not strengthened then other structures of your back will have to work harder to support the body. This leads to muscle strains and back pain.

Upright Posture

Good posture lessens wear and tear on the spine and allows you to breathe deeply making it easier for oxygen to travel through your muscles so they are able to contract. An upright posture can help you endure sitting or standing for long periods of time. It is important to have a strengthened core because it keeps your body aligned, eliminates back pain, and increases your overall exercise output.

So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to ditch the T.V. marathons for some real marathon training! Choose a race, find a club, and hit the road, gym, or pool to enjoy these benefits today. And always remember, don’t you ever play any sort of games with a complete stranger in the subway !
